Our Founder

Ven. Fr. Antony Pagani

The Venerable Antony Pagani, Founder of the Dimesse Sisters, was born in Venice, Italy, in 1526, in a noble and Christion family. His baptismal name was Mark. From his childhood he demonstrated signs of very good heart and great intelligence.
At the age of five, he lost his beloved father, and remained as the only hope and joy of his mother. Encouraged by his spiritual director, he joined the Franciscan Novitiate in 1557, at Udine. At his profession, together with the religious habit he received the name Fr. Ant any. He, then, began a life of manifold active apostolate. Venice, his beloved city, where already as a boy he had felt the attraction for the Franciscan Friars, was the first place where holy obedience destined him to work.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPANY

The Company of the Dimesse expanded quickly in the whole of the Republic of Venice, in conformity with the social situation of the time, but bringing a new breath of spiritual life, through a witness that went beyond the limits of the local situation.

OUR COMMUNITIES

Dimesse is an ancient tree which was planted 444 years ago in Italy. One of its branches spread to India in 1984. Our communities in India are:

Mavoor

In Calicut Diocese, which is situated in the North Kerala was our first mission to be opened in India, in the year 1984 at Mavoor. The people of Mavoor were confronting the time of economic crisis due to the closure of the factory for some years and the people started to commit suicide due to poverty and other financial problems. The Dimesse sisters started some income earning activities immediately responding to the urgent situation. They also collaborated with the parish priest in all the Apostolate such as teaching catechism, youth ministry, family apostolate and social work. At the same time, due to the need of the people, a Nursery School was opened which grew till 10th standard. The sisters continue to work within the parish giving a helping hand to the parish priest of the locality.

Pallikkara

In 1991 Dimesse sisters arrived a Pallikkara, Kasaragod District, in Kannur Diocese. Right away the sisters started involving themselves with the activities of the parish. Living with the fishermen, the sisters food themselves amidst a great mission. The people were illiterate and their moral life as well as culture was so miserable. They spent their life with the poor folk in order to bring them forward in all the aspects of their life. Now the face of the sea shore people has changed completely. Meanwhile they established a Nursery School which is a High School today. Besides the work in the school, our sisters are involved in the pastoral activities of the parish such as teaching catechism, youth ministry, family apostolate and social work under the guidance of Kannur Diocese.

Kappamkolly

Dimesse Sisters opened another community in Wayanad District in the year 2003. The aim of the community was collaborating with the parish priest. As for the apostolate, the Dimesse Sisters are involved in the youth ministry, nursery school, teaching catechism and social work under Calicut Diocese. There, near to the community later we opened a formation house for our candidates especially for postulants and novices. It wasour dream to have a house all for formation. Savoring the beauty of nature, among the mountains and valleys conversing with the beauty of creation there the candidates can prepare themselves to respond generously to the call of God as future Dimesse.

Pallam

The latest Indian delegation community opened in Pallam, Trivandrum in the capital city of Kerala in 2013. St. Francis Xavier Church, Pallam is a small parish in KarinkulamPanchayat, one of the most densely populated areas in Asia, along the coast of the Arabian Sea. There are 550 families here. The men here are involved in fishing and the women are engaged in the fish trade. Since people here do not give importance to education, their social, moral and cultural level is very low. But their love is very warm and innocent. The sisters involved all the activities of the parish- Youth ministry, animating the family units and teaching catechism. Sisters are also teaching in the parish nursery. Since two years, under the name of Amalolbhava Matha, our lay fraternity has existed to share with them the charism of the founder, Father Antony Pagani. Every month we gather to read, meditate, share and strive to live a piece of the Gospel. Community members occasionally work together in side businesses and take on assignments to make spiritual changes in their personal lives.

S.Pudur

In 2006 the Dimesse moved to another community, Mariyasadan convent which was opened in the state of Tamil Nadu. Our superior General with her council responded to one of our great desires of having a community outside Kerala. The community is surrounded by about 13 villages, people who struggle for their very necessary things. It isreally a mission land where the selfless love of the sisters is translated into generosity in order to relieve the people from their daily sufferings. There we have opened a dispensary so that the first medical help is assured to the people. Our sisters are committed in the acts of charity as the time and place require of. Uplifting the women was a just cause for taking up the activities like teaching the stitching and buying stitching machines for those who finish their study and some other hand craft works.

Sivapuram

Dimesse Sisters opened one more community in Tamil Nadu, Kumbakonam Diocese in the year 2011. Sivapuram is a substation belong to Cathedral Parish. It’s a remote village were people are very poor and illiterate. Our sisters stayed in the rented house to serve the poor by being one among them up to 10 years. To empower women our sisters started tailoring unit , to give education support to the backward students sisters begun free coaching classes(Tuition). Sisters are involved in the youth ministry, nursery school, teaching catechism and social work. By seeing the need of the people we opened a dispensary.
